Customer Rating: Summary: Bounce Test Comment: I had to spend a couple of days in the hospital getting zapped with radiation and took my Ipod 80GB Classic with me in this case. Three times it was dropped down to the hard floor from hospital bed height and it survived them all. I was required to lie totally flat for two days at a stretch, I was able to handle this with 80 GB of jazz and what-not on the Ipod to pass the time. I was more than happy when my player was fetched from the floor several times and remained in perfect working condition following the Inadvertent Bounce Tests. Was it the case that saved the day? Who knows, but it did survive, as did I and we are both still playing...
Customer Rating: Summary: it ruined my ipod but good protection if you drop it Comment: I got a new ipod for xmas and i won't be buying a toughskin case. i got a new ipod because my old one was scratched beyond belief from this case.the case is next to impossible to remove, the screen was so scratched it was literally unviewable. like another reviewer said, i thought it was the (not secure, removable) plastic screen cover that was scratched but they both were. where the belt clip attached to the cover left a huge scratch on the back of the ipod the size of a dime and the rubber around the top was loose. the plus's were that it was easy and comfortable to grip and the ipod was definately protected and safe if it was dropped. also i used the belt clip when i went to the gym and the ipod felt securely attached.
Customer Rating: Summary: One of the best cases I have used for the Ipod Classic - Extreme protection! Comment: I have the newest Ipod Classic (120 Gb/Sixth Generation) ... the newest one, at the time of this writing. Fits just fine. The case works great, and in my opinion, is perfect if you want good protection from shocks and are very active. The screen protector that comes with it is also great. This unit has saved my ipod from drops many times. Haven't really used the belt clip. Another commenter mentioned that they were unhappy with the belt clip and that this is not a good case to be using for workouts. My question to them: Why, in this day and age, would use a hard drive based player for workouts when flash players, besides the IPOD nano (or if you like the NANO), are fairly cheap. I can't say that I use this to work out. Too big. I use it for more for car, home, party, stero, and general use. I've dropped it many times than I would have liked to and the case excels in protecting it. I really like the fact that I have strong rubber protecting the case, along with a good, hard, plastic screen protector that fits pretty well over the case, without moving around.
Now here are some bad things, though minor.
Dust can sometimes get inside. It might be needed to taken out the case, and cleaned every once in a while. I usually clean it out every 2 or 3 months. If you don't mind a little dust, you can probably wait a little bit longer.
At the top of the case, near where the top portion of the screen protector meets the rubber, some may find that this is not as tight as they like, as some have mentioned in their reviews. This is true; it is slightly loose, but it hardly makes things move around or anything, and the Ipod, along with the screen protector DO NOT move and are still snug in my experience. A very minor point.
Also, it can be somewhat difficult to take out and put back in.
Overall, the cons are small, and I would recommend this case to anybody. This has extreme protection. I would also recommend the nano versions of these cases as well. They are very strong and offer great protection.
Speck ToughSkin Rubberized Case for iPod nano 3G (Clear)
I have used the above case for my NANO 3G, and it offers the same great protection as this case.
Five stars for both. In general, Speck makes some pretty good cases for music players in my opinion. I am still waiting for them to come out with a ToughSkin for the newest Ipod Nanon (4th Gen.).
From plastic to rubber to even metal, I've used many cases over the years. This is one of the best. For extreme protection for your Ipod Classic, don't wait; get this.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great Protection Comment: This case adds some industrial strength protection to your Ipod. I love that it keeps the Ipod from sliding around in the car, on the plane, off your desk, etc. Not only is it durable but it can also take some abuse. The openings for all of the ports make them easily accessable but I don't think you could use it with any type of docking station. There is also an opening for the control wheel.
The are a few drawbacks that keep me from giving this item 5 stars. First is the fit and the protective window. Since this thing is made to fit the 80,120, and 160 GB classics it comes with an insert that is marked for the 80 GB version. When I put my 120 GB Ipod in this case it was a loose fit and the window would not even begin to stay in place. So I put the insert in and it fits much tighter now, the window is pretty secure but the whole thing is also thicker now. Not a problem for me but some people might not find it appealing. Like other people have said your best bet is to put your Ipod in the case a leave it, the rubber at the top of the protective window is not very thick and will distort easily allowing dirt and dust to get inside the case and scratch the screen.
The belt clip is also a drawback, this part of the case seems like it was made by a totally different company, it seems very cheap and I don't know how much I trust it with $225 worth of Ipod swinging around on it, even though this case would probably save the Ipod if the clip failed. It is just a chance I don't want to take.
Customer Rating: Summary: Keep your pod safe Comment: Very tough. Could drop the I-pod on tile without damaging it with this cover on. It's not ideal if you're looking for something small, but it's good protection.
